HTTP Server for Rysin Online Statistics Version 4
By Ryan Fisher, Rysin Online

Plenty of new features will be programmed into Statistics Version 4. Probably the most anticipated feature is the HTTP Web Server which will change the way which inexperienced radio hosts can serve statistics.

HTTP Server

General Information

Statistics Version 4 will come with an HTTP Server. The behaviour of the HTTP Server will be unique to Statistics Version 4, and will be specially designed to suit both advanced and inexperienced users.

What is an HTTP Server?

An "HTTP server" is basically a program which can send files to other computers. The HTTP Server will have it's own "Address" which users type into their web browser to access the Statistics. Normal addresses look like "http://www.RysinOnline.com/". This is because the Rysin Online site is handled by a specialist company.

When allowing users to view files, this is called "Serving" because you serve the files to any user who wants it. For Example, When (in your browser such as internet explorer) you type "http://www.RysinOnline.com/", our web serving company sends a file to your PC, and internet explorer works it's magic to display it. Statistics Version 4 will do the exact same thing with your Statistics! Why do this? - So that your listeners and hosts can view your statistics. Also, advanced users can use this to their advantage by using scripts within websites.

What if I don't want anyone else to see my statistics?

A majority of SHOUTcast radio sites do not wish for listeners to see how many other listeners there are, and so try their best to hide the server information which our Statistics program needs. In the past, users who choose to hide the information have never had to worry about Statistics Version 3 revealing this information.

With Version 4 nothing has changed, you will be able to set up authentication so that only you can access your Statistics.
